If you’re like me, you have profiles setup on most of the social networking sites available. So let me ask you a really quick question…why? Why are the social network sites so popular these days? I know that for me, I don’t use them to “make new friends” as many do. I use them for marketing.

It’s very useful to get your site dugg (ok, a play on words from digg.com) , reddit, stumbled (stumbleupon.com), and the many other sites. So how is that good for marketing? Simply because of the traffic those submissions generate. Not to mention the linkbacks. You see, those sites are highly crawled by the big search engines, and so they’ll find a link pointing to your site very fast.

So how many of you are actively marketing your websites the social way?

Latent Semantic Indexing. Cool sounding term. Now, before I get into what it actually is…can you imagine how smart you’ll sound when you use that term with your friends, as they discuss web technologies? But I digress…

Here’s the definition of LSI use from SEOBook.com (taken from http://www.seobook.com/lsi/lsa_definition.htm):

Latent semantic indexing adds an important step to the document indexing process. In addition to recording which keywords a document contains, the method examines the document collection as a whole, to see which other documents contain some of those same words. LSI considers documents that have many words in common to be semantically close, and ones with few words in common to be semantically distant. This simple method correlates surprisingly well with how a human being, looking at content, might classify a document collection. Although the LSI algorithm doesn’t understand anything about what the words mean, the patterns it notices can make it seem astonishingly intelligent.

So how does this effect you and your Plain Old Semantic HTML? Well, for starters it will give you a better grasp of your sites overall theme, and how closely matched the context is in correlation to each other. Since Google has already been using this type of technology in it’s algorithms, and it looks like the other SE’s are following suit, I urge you to really analyze your keywords within content for their semantical relationships and values.

Yes, SE’s frown upon paid linking. I don’t disagree with that. What I disagree with is the blanket statement of selling text links for artificial rank gains.

The recent Google PR buzz has really done tons to offer “link bait” – but that’s not why I’m writing this post. You see, many webmasters have such a “PR head” about them, that it becomes the ONLY thing they check daily…”what’s my PR today?”

Do you know what I do everyday? I track the optimization progress of the many sites I maintain in SERPs (Search Engine Results Position) as well as the far many optimization scores that a site registers. And to do this, I pray about it first, then I check the desktop programs I have installed. Them I check my email – yes my email, for the notifications of any change that the sites configured at SheerSEO.com.

You see, they have – by far – the best free seo software online that I have found.

Not only does it keep statistics for your websites current PR (Google pageRank), Indexed Pages, Single Page Analysis SERPs – but it also keeps analytic history of those statistics:

I use my three accounts every day, one for each domain that track, with many more that I need to track as well. If you’re as serious about your website analytics as I am, you’ll open your free account as soon as possible.
